Characteristics of a Wise Son

Father and son silhouetteProverbs 13:1 A wise son heeds [and is the fruit of] his father’s instruction and correction, but a scoffer listens not to rebuke. (AMP)

Parents who spend quality time with the LORD are a benefit to their children. In the process of diligently devoting quality time, they become skilled in the things of the LORD. They also make their way prosperous and have good success because they meditate day and night upon His words and a careful to speak them over their children and themselves. As parents are instructed to reverence, listen and obey their heavenly Father, so are children of all ages instructed to do the same by their earthly parents. The first command of promise to children is “Honor your father and mother so that you may live long and that it may go well with you …” In addition to prosperity, good success, and a God-centered vocabulary, your faith will increase and you will receive your heavenly Father’s character, which is the fruit of righteousness. A wise son embodies the fruit of righteousness, which includes wisdom from above, which is first pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. One translation of Proverbs 13:1 reads “A wise son hears his father and an evil son who does not receive reproof will perish”. The fruit of righteousness grows in the son who respects, listens and obeys his father’s instructions and corrections. Become and continue to be a wise son exemplifying the fruit of righteousness in Christ Jesus.
