Making the Decision to Love

Decision to Love bid-protestRomans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

At first glance, it appears that this scripture is referring to money, but it is not. However, if a debt is owed, we are expected to pay it. Jesus said, “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and give to God what belongs to God” when He was asked if it right to pay taxes to Cesar. Romans 13:8 is actually telling us that we owe one another love and when we love each other we are fulfilling the law of Moses. A Pharisees, who was an expert in the Law, asked Jesus, “Which is the greatest commandments of the Law”? Jesus said unto him, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself”. To make it perfectly clear that love is the key, He went on to say, “On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets”. That statement was necessary because the Pharisees and Sadducees had added an additional 613 laws of their own to the original 10 Commandments. Jesus knew that if one of the 10 commandments were broken then all were broken. So Jesus summed it up for them. Thank God for Jesus! What is important to note is that love does no evil to his neighbor: therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law. We are obligated to love one another because God first loved us and He showed us how to love through Jesus Christ, even when we were unlovable. What do we owe each other, even when we are unlovable? Nothing by pure love and because we love one another the expectation is that we will do each other no harm. To love is a decision. Make the decision and show your love.

Prayer for Today:   Father, when I don’t feel like extending the love, remind me to love because you continue to love me in spite of myself. In JESUS name, AMEN.

Whatever you must do today, there is a grace for that. Accept the grace and make it a sweatless day.
