The Key to a Healthy Relationship

HoldingHandsOceanSunset650Ephesians 6:2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)

Isn’t it interesting that the first commandment with promise is to honor your father and mother.  Relationships are very important to God because your first relationship begins in your home.  How you interact with your parents will determine how you will interact with all of your other relationships.  If there is a rocky, turbulent, disrespectful relationship between children and parents, that relationship will have to be worked out in love before you will be able to love others.  Children should honor their parents even if they are demanding and unfair.  Remember, God does not hold you responsible for how they or other treat you.  He only holds you responsible for how you treat them.  Parents should be treated with honor and dignity.  I have noticed in some culture, children put their parent’s interests and well-being before their own.  What does God promise for honoring your father and mother?  He promises that things will go well with you.  He does not stop there.  He also promises that you will have a long life on the earth.  Love is the key to honoring others and maintaining a healthy relationship.  God, himself is love.  Help for loving as you ought to love is found in First Corinthians 13.  Opportunities are presented to you to practice your love walk in your varied relationships, daily.  So, practice to attain God’s promises.
