Love Without Slack

Brotherly-LoveI Peter 1:22 I Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

The second category of love is Phileo or Philadelphia, which is fraternal affection, love of the brethren, brotherly kindness, love of Christian brethren.  Fraternal affection is the brotherly love commonly associated with Greek fraternities.  However, brotherly love is the love that is achieved after one has been purified by obeying the truth so that the love that exists for one another is a sincere love that originates from deep within the heart where the Holy Spirit dwells.  This is the pure God-centered love that Jonathan had for David, like a friend, not a fleshly sensual type of love.  Fervently is the Greek word ektenós, which means to love with an intense love, a brotherly love that is earnest and that it stretches out to its full potential.  Paul is talking to Christians brethren when He says to love one another with a pure heart fervently.  We are commanded to love one another without being slack in our love walk with each other.

Scripture References:  I Samuel 18:1

Prayer for today:  Father, help me to let the pure God-centered love toward my sisters and brethren in Christ reign.   In JESUS name, AMEN.

Whatever you must do today, there is a grace for that.  Accept the grace and make it a sweatless day.

Love
