Love and Respect, Part 2

LoveRespectCover1Reverse psychology or a belittling strategy is not God’s plan for demonstrating respect for one’s husbands.  In truth, it is the sin of disobedience followed by consequences.  David danced and played before the LORD as the ark of the covenant was being moved to his place, which he had prepared for it.  Mi’chal, David’s wife, despised him in her heart.  She proceeded to disrespect him by belittling him. She said in disgust, “How distinguished the king of Israel looked today, shamelessly exposing himself to the servant girls like any vulgar person might do!”   In her case, the consequence of disrespecting her husband caused her to be childless.   Perhaps David’s love and their intimate marital relationship ceased.  Scripture does not say.  One the other hand, a husband is commanded to love his wife and to treat her as he should.  The consequence of not doing so is that his prayers will be hindered. Neither of the actions or lack thereof is acceptable.  Love and respect with a God-focused view in marriage are God’s design for a healthy marriage.  Love and respect one another.

Prayer for today:  Father, help husbands and wives to love and respect one another so that marriages will resemble that marriage between Christ and the church.  In JESUS name, AMEN.

Whatever you must do today, there is a grace for that.  Accept the grace and make it a sweatless day.
