The Certainty of God’s Promises

The-Promises-of-GodRomans 6:17-18 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. 18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.

Why were the disciples able to endure the hardships they encountered after the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven?  First, what they believed about Jesus had traveled the 12 inches down from their heads and taken up residence in their hearts.  Faith in Jesus Christ offered them the promise of eternity.  Jesus said to them, “…I go to prepare a place for you… where I am, there ye may be also.”  The second reason was their hope that Jesus was at the end of their tumorous journey.  Hope was an anchor for their soul: firm and secure.   Though they had not laid eyes on the promise, they persisted in the divinely guaranteed promise and were fueled by the hope of living in the eternal presence of God throughout all eternity.  According to Randy Frazee, “Hope gives us the ability to endure the hardships and difficulties along the road of faith.”  As was the certainty of God’s promises to the early disciples, faith fueled by hope is your encouragement to endure until the promises are manifested in your life.

Prayer for today:  Father, I thank you that this hope I have is an anchor for my soul, a hope that is both sure and steadfast in Jesus Christ.  In JESUS’ name, AMEN.

Whatever you must do today, there is a grace for that.  Accept the grace and make it a sweatless day.

Love
