Abraham’s and David’s Discovery

planets_banner_510Romans 4:1 What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, discovered in this matter?  (NIV)

Men have laid claims to discovering many things, but these claims have lasting value.  Paul restated Abraham’s and David’s discovery. He said,

1What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, discovered in this matter? 2If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God. 3What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” 4Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. 5However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness. 6David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works: 7“Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. 8Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them.”  (NIV)

Faith means to believe and to obey what you believe.  Abraham fixed his eyes on what he did not see with the hope and strong conviction that God was the final destination of his faith. For the one who has faith in and is obedience to the true and living God, righteousness is credited to his account.

Prayer for today:  Father, I acknowledge that I cannot boast in my works.  Rather, I am thankful that You justified me by your grace and credited my faith in and obedience to You as righteousness.  In JESUS’ name, AMEN.

Whatever you must do today, there is a grace for that.  Accept the grace and make it a sweatless day.

Love
