Deceived or Truly Wise, Which Will You Become?

I Corinthians 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

The wisdom of God is foolish to this world and the wisdom of this world is foolish to God. What an impasse for the one who is worldly-wise. Worldly wisdom is puffed up with pride. It is not teachable. Satan, the god of this world, blinded the minds of unbelievers so that they cannot see the light of the Gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. Therefore, worldly wisdom is deceitful. It will deceive you and lead you to believe that you are the only wise person in the room. “If any man among you seem to be wise in this world let him become a fool, …”. You are encouraged to become a fool. Fool in this text refers to being nonsensical. In other words, do not operate in the sense realm, but rather, operate in the spirit realm. Truly, God’s word does not have to make sense; it makes faith. God does not operate by the senses. For example one might say: “I don’t feel like I am saved.” It may be a fact, but for the believer being saved is the truth and not a feeling. God’s word operates by faith. Isaiah said, “Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” The NLT reads, “What sorrow for those who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever”. Worldly cleverness is rooted in pride and pride is evil in God’s eyes. It means that one thinks that he does not need God. Led by the Spirit of God, a songwriter wrote, “I Need Thee Every Hour”. He no doubt had a revelation that his senses could not do what faith in the word of God could do. Know this beloved, that the wisdom of God makes faith, whereas the perceived wisdom of this world makes sense to the unwise.  The world will think you a fool, but who cares. Be a fool for God in Christ Jesus so that you may become wise. Deceived or truly wise, which will you become?
