Things You Should Know About Temptation, Part 7

Sometimes you will have to rebuke those closest to you.

Woman Arguing with ManJob 2:9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.

Temptation can come from those closest to you. Job’s wife wanted to know why he was still trying to be godly. Why was he still holding on to his integrity? Why was he still holding on to his faith in God? Not the type of question that you would expect from your spouse or your true friend. God said of Job, “there is no one like him on the earth, a perfect and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil.” God was so sure of Job’s faith that he repeated it twice. (Job 1:8 and Job 2:3) Perfect in this scripture does not mean mature. It means blameless, undefiled, a pure uncompromising trust in the Lord. Satan hit Job with five crushing blows that would have rattled any man. First, Job’s oxens and donkeys were taken and his servants attending them were killed. Second, his sheep and servants attending them were burned alive. Third, his enemies took his camels and killed those servants. Fourth, a great wind (tornado) hit the house where his sons and daughters were feasting and killed them all. Fifth, Satan afflicted Job with sore boils from his head to his feet. Though Job’s situation was bad, his trust in the Lord was unwavering.  Job’s wife suggested that he curse God and die. Sometimes you will have to rebuke those closest to you. Job said, “You talk like a foolish woman…” (Job 2:10 NLT) Job did not sin with his mouth by talking against God. The ability to recognize temptation and turn away from its evil is in your salvation package. Jesus is your shepherd, and he will protect you and provide a way to escape it, if you let Him.
