I’ve Got a New Song to Sing

black-woman-Singing-101Exodus 15:2 The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Songs have a way of etching into our memory banks visuals of past events, whether they be victories or defeats. Songs of praise unto the LORD, our God, for His goodness shown toward us is a way of worshiping Him. It is akin to you showing your appreciation to your earthly father or mother when they did something for you that you considered awesome. It becomes a memory that you carry with you forever. To memorialize for themselves and all future generations, Moses and the children of Israel sang a song of victory after they saw the great work the LORD did to the Egyptians when they pursued them into the Red Sea. The water parted and Israel walked across the Red Sea on dry land to freedom, while the Egyptians, their enemies, drowned in the Red Sea. Israel declared that the LORD was their strength and song, their salvation, their God, their forefather’s Creator, and their LORD of war. Song, praise, and worship flowed out of them as they witnessed the love of God shown to them. The LORD became their salvation. Salvation is the Greek word Sótéria, which means welfare (help), prosperity, deliverance, preservation, safety. God loves it when you show reverence to Him through praise, worship, and song. As you reflect over your life, allow your experiences of God’s salvation to rise up in you to the overflow. Now sing unto Him a new song, a song that honors Him and memorializes for you the past victories that only He could have given you.
