Teaching from Your Book of Life, Part 6: Create Your Own Book of Life

BookTitus 2:5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

In Part 5, we saw that children are a gift from the LORD and as such, love is demonstrated toward them by training, careful discipline, providing for and protecting them. We will continue with older women are to teach younger women to be discreet. Discreet is the Greek word sóphrón (so’-frone), which means of sound mind, for example: self-controlled (moderate as to opinion or passion), sober-minded, temperate, modest, chaste. Just to demonstrate how awful a woman without discretion is, Proverbs 11:22 says, “A beautiful woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig’s snout”. Proverbs 27:15 says, “A quarrelsome wife is like the dripping of a leaky roof in a rainstorm; (NIV). Another version says she is annoying. Married or single, an overbearing, opinionated, quarreling, and complaining woman is not attractive. Just imagine if every time you engaged in behavior that lacks self-control people see you as a pig snorting or a constant annoying drip on a rainy day. Selah (Pause and think about it)!   As a married woman, you were designed to be a help-meet. So, be led by the Holy Spirit and say only what He tells you to say in love. Then, let it go. Older women are to teach younger women to put forth as much, if not more, effort on their inner beauty. Teach them to be moderate in their conduct and in their attire. Teach them that their adornment should not be merely external—the hair style, or wearing jewelry, or putting on fancy clothing. But, let their beauty shine through the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. Teach them that this is the true unfading beauty. In Part 7, we will continue our study on the practical and spiritual things that older women should impart to younger women, thereby giving us all an opportunity to write or rewrite the pages of our lives.
