Teaching from Your Book of Life, Part 5: Create Your Own Book of Life

Mother-with-KidsTitus 2:4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

In Part 4, we discussed the importance of loving and respecting your husband. We will continue with old women are to teach young women to love their children. Children are a blessing, a gift given to us by God’s grace to be good stewards (guardians) over them. They are the fruit of a woman’s womb, but they actually belong to the LORD. As children of the LORD, they are to be treated as such, as His special possession with tender love and care. Scripture has a lot to say about the relationship between a parent and a child. Friendship is great in its place. However, God called us to be overseers, parents to His gift. Love is demonstrated toward children by training, careful discipline, providing for and protecting them. Proverbs tell us to, “Train up a child in the way he/she should go…” Though it is not popular in modern day society, Proverbs also tells us, “Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them” (NLT). Women are to always be concerned, but not worried about the well-being of their children and to provide for them. Matthew says, don’t offend, despise, look down on, feel scornful toward, think little of, or lightly esteem the little ones. Again, they belong to the LORD and whatever you do to them, you have done it to Him. In Part 6, we will continue our study on the practical and spiritual things that older women should impart to younger women, thereby giving us all an opportunity to write or rewrite the pages of our lives.
