First Love

flaming-heart1Revelation 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

You don’t do the things you use to do. Remember when you first fell madly in love with me. You brought flowers for me. You never failed to open my door. You wrote me love notes. You said sweet nothings to me. You called to check on me during the day. You were attentive to my needs. You made me laugh giving me the euphoric feeling of excitement and joy. These are statements from a marriage that has lost its zeal and is just going through the motions. The church at Ephesus is commended for their hard work and patient endurance and how they could not tolerate evil men. They were commended for their perseverance and endurance of hardships for Jesus’ name, and how they had not grown weary is well doing in the process. Though they were going through the motions of combining work and patience, nevertheless, abandoning their first love was held against them. They were encouraged to pause, to take a look at how far they had drifted away from Him, to repent and do those things they did at first. God wants a fresh ever evolving, on-fire relationship with you. The disciples reminisced about how their hearts burned, as if they were on fire when Jesus spoke to them and explained the Scriptures. God’s word spoken through Jesus Christ started a fire in them that burned so hot that it compelled them to go into all the world to preach the Good News of the Gospel, that Jesus saves, to everyone. The same zeal that the disciples had for their first love was the same zeal He looked for in the Ephesus church and is the same zeal He looks for in you and me. Just as He encouraged the Ephesus church to repent and to return to their first, He is desirous that we repent and rekindle that hot on-fire love for Him, our first love and to go tell somebody about Jesus. Do those things you did at first when you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour and LORD. Remember how you couldn’t wait to tell everybody about the love of your life.

Prayer for today: Father, forgive me for those times that I have abandoned You. Help me, I pray to reminisce continually about my first love so that I may stay on fire for Jesus. In JESUS name, AMEN.

Whatever you must do today, there is a grace for that. Accept the grace and make it a sweatless day.

Love
