Issues of Life

Guard your heart heart-attackProverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Issues, everybody has them, but there is a proper way to handle them so that they will produce a fruitful life. We can learn from Solomon, the wise king. Talking to his son, he said to pay attention and learn good judgment. He taught the way of wisdom. He understood that wisdom and understanding the ways of God would resolve all issues and keep him from falling into evil passions. Following after wisdom and understanding will promote a long healthy good life full of prosperity in every area. Above everything else you do in life, guard your heart, your inner man, your spirit for out of it flows the issues of life. Your heart dictates your feelings, your desires and the way you live. Guard your heart against desires that will lead you down the wrong path in life. Keep God’s words in the midst of your heart so that your focus will be on that which is pleasing to Him. David realized the importance of storing up God’s word in his heart as a means of resisting the urge to sin against Him. Wisdom and understanding will instruct you to avoid men who are governed by the ways of the world, those whose heart is set on evil, wickedness and violence, and those who engage in perverse and deceitful talk and corrupt speech. Instead, stay focused; don’t lose sight of God; look straight ahead with your eyes on the prize that is, the God-kind of abundant and everlasting life. Hide God’s word in your heart. Let them penetrate deep into your spirit for they bring life and healing to them that are able to recall them and apply them to their daily lives. God’s ways of doing things will lead you straight down the path to eternal life. When you walk in God’s ways, nothing of lasting value will be withheld from you. When you run after Him, you won’t stumble and fall nor cause others to stumble along the way.  I Peter 5:7 tells you to cast the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.
