True Love

truelove28429True love begins with God for God is love. I Corinthians 13: 4-8a gives a description of love. It says, “Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8Love never fails…”(TLV) True love is not natural; it is supernatural. It is impossible to have unconditional love without the help of God. This type of love starts from the inside of you and manifests itself outward toward others. Speaking by the authority of God, Paul said, “Owe nothing to anyone–except for your obligation to love one another…” Keeping with that theme, love does not expect anything in return; it just loves. Love has to be practiced, developed and nurtured. As surely as you live among men, you will have many opportunities to cultivate true love, that Agape, God-kind of love. Follow the examples of God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and Holy Spirit the Helper. God could have spared His own Son, but He didn’t because of His love for us. Jesus could have rejected the cross, but He didn’t because of His love for you and me. Holy Spirit could have refused to take up His residence in us, but He didn’t because of His love for you and me. The “Helper” was sent to help us set aside our own selfish desires so that we could become God’s calling card to draw others to Him. As we follow Christ, we become His manifested love in the earth.
