Quench the Thirst

Living Water 14692_19126_5John 4:13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

Getting drinking water is a matter of turning on a faucet or pushing a button on a water cooler.   Imagine having to draw water from a cistern or a well and having to carry it for a great distance. A certain Samaritan woman went to Jacob’s well to draw water. Jesus weary from His journey asked her for a drink of water. Instead of giving Him water, her curiosity got the best of her. Jews and Samaritans had nothing to do with one another so she wanted to know why He was asking her for a drink of water. Jesus responded, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” … “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” (John 4:10,13-14NLT) Isn’t it interesting that two people can be in the same conversation, but are talking about two different things. She was talking about physical water. Jesus was talking about spiritual water to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word for she had five husbands and she wasn’t married to the man she was living with. She wanted Jesus to give her living water as if the water would draw itself and come to her so that she would never have to come to the well to draw water again to quench her thirst. Not so! Jesus offered her the gift of living water to satisfy the spiritual thirst that she did not know that she had. Jesus is the living Word and He is offering the same living water today, which feeds and waters our spirit, soul, and body and leads to eternal life. Accept the living water and let Him quench thirst.
