Authority in the Name

Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

Jesus sent an additional 70 disciples into all the town and places He planned to visit. Their instructions were to make other disciples to share the gospel. Gospel in the Greek is ev-angelion. They were to evangelize others by explaining what God had done to restore the fellowship between Him and mankind; that God had entered into the world in the person of Jesus Christ so that salvation would be made available to all men. The disciples were sent out in pairs because Jesus knew they would be attacked by the establishment like lambs by hungry wolves. So He gave them His name to use as their calling card everywhere they went. When they returned, they were excited and reported that even demons obeyed them when they used His name. Jesus replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and to overcome (prevail against) all the power of the enemy; and nothing by any means will harm you.” Child of God, you have been given the same authority. Pray in faith and seal your expectation with “In Jesus name,” being confident that the Father will do whatever you ask him to do according to His word. In so doing, even the demons will be subject unto you.
