The Power of the Tongue

Tongue-ScraperProverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

The tongue is a very small member of the body, but a very powerful member.  So powerful is the tongue that cautions are given regarding keeping it under control.  James tells us that if we can control the tongue, we can control the whole body.  David recognized that if anyone one desired life and wanted to live a long time and see good days, that he should keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.  Solomon said, “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul (mind will and emotions) from troubles.”  The NLT says it this way, “Watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut, and you will stay out of trouble. Selah! Solomon also said, He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction. Since we have come to understand that death and life are in the power of the tongue, let us choose our words carefully so that we only speak those things that promote life.  The fruit we bear with our tongues can be bitter or sweet, life or death.
