How Good It Is!

Proverbs_15-23Proverbs 15:23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

Matthew Henry said, “We speak wisely when we speak seasonable: when it is needed, and, as we say, hits the joint. Many a good word comes short of doing the good it might have done, for want of being well-timed.” Wisdom and timing build strong foundations for effective communication. What you say, how you sat it, and when you say it is important to any relationship. James tells us to ask for wisdom and to be slow to speak. Waiting to receive wisdom will quicken your listening ability, curb your anger, promote good conversation, and perpetuate joy. Words are containers of power, which can edify and encourage. Conversely, they can also be destructive when they are not well-timed and void of wisdom and love. A word spoken in due season is beneficial to you and the hearer. Practice waiting on the LORD, before you speak. The NLT reads, “Everyone enjoys a fitting reply; it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time!” Give joy to others by your well-timed spoken word. How good it is!
