Love and Peace

white dove in flight 5II Corinthians 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

Witnesses reported that many of the Corinthians were once again living a scandalous lifestyle though Paul had taught them how to live according to the word of God and to ask God for forgiveness. Some questioned whether Christ was speaking through Paul. In an effort to clear up the matter, Paul wrote a letter of confirmation and warning. In essence, he said the problem is not with me for Christ has given me the authority to speak. Nor is it with Christ for He is the power. Paul said, “Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you– unless indeed you fail the test”? (NASB) Genuine faith will cause you to do what is right, to live a lifestyle that is approved by God. Then Paul prayed that they would do no evil and live approved of God. The LORD’s purpose is never to tear you down with his corrections, but rather to build you up so that you may live godly. Further, the LORD purposes to put you in position to receive all the good things He has in store for you. Finally, Paul ends his letter by encouraging them to: 1.) Be perfect. In Christ, you are perfect (thoroughly complete) as He is perfect. 2.) Be of good comfort. Rely upon Holy Spirit, who is your Comforter. 3.) Be of one mind. Have a transformed mind, a mind that has been restored to the unity and purpose of Christ. 4.) Live in peace. You be the peace-maker. Be at peace with God and at peace with others being careful to do what is right toward them. As these things are being perfected in you, you can be assured that the God of love and peace shall be with you.
