A Priority or an Excuse

Everyone is called to follow Jesus though not all will accept the invitation.  Some may say yes, but make excuses as to why they can’t follow Him right now.   A certain man said unto Him, “Lord, I will follow you wherever you go”.  When Jesus said to another, “Follow me.”  He said, “Lord, let me first go to bury my father.”   Yet another one said, “Lord, I will follow you, but let me first go and say goodbye to my family”.  Notice, each man said let me first do this or that.  Neither man was willing to make Jesus his first priority.  I am not aware of anyone who does not want Jesus to make them His first priority, especially when difficulties arise.  My son’s elementary teacher said to him, “Excuses only satisfy the one who makes them”.  Saying yes and making an excuse is likened to putting your hand on the plough, but not ploughing because you are looking back at the things you left behind and wanting to go back when Jesus is saying, “Follow me”.

Scripture Reference:  Luke 9:57-62; Exodus 20:3

Prayer for today:  Father, according to First John 1:9, forgive me for not making you my priority.  In JESUS’ name, AMEN.

Whatever you must do today, there is a grace for that.  Accept the grace and make it a sweatless day.

Love
